A New Zealand soldier lauded for his actions in Afghanistan, James McKie, is home for a three-week holiday from the British Army.
Rifleman McKie, 29, threw a live grenade away from comrades in Helmand, Afghanistan, seconds before it exploded. He sustained shrapnel wounds in the process.
The action earned him a promotion in the British Army and he is now based in Edinburgh.
Rifleman McKie told Nine to Noon he originally joined the New Zealand Army for something to do, but left due to job dissatisfaction and joined the British Army.
