Diversions are likely to stay in place for several hours following a fatal crash on State Highway 1, between Timaru and Oamaru, say police.
Inspector Dave Gaskin said the police were still at the scene following the crash, involving a truck and a car this morning, just north of Glenavy.
The current diversions are likely to stay in place for several hours.
He said the Serious Crash Unit was at the scene and an investigation into the cause of the collision was under way.
