Police in Whakatane are waiting for the results of a toxicology report to determine the cause of death of a Spanish man in their cells on Friday.
Francisco Javier De Larratea Soler, 43, was highly intoxicated when picked him up about 11.30am on Friday. He was found dead in a routine cell check at about 5.20pm.
Inspector Steve Bullock says the post-mortem revealed that the death was not due to any physical injuries.
