Adrian Gard, who was working for the team at the time, was charged with public mischief by the New South Wales police earlier this week.

The bug was discovered embedded in a chair before New Zealand's Bledisloe Cup clash with Australia in August.

Mr Gard told The Daily Telegraph in Sydney that he had no idea about the listening device until he was told about it.

The 51-year-old told the paper he was annoyed about the charges, and was going to try to ride out the next few months.

He said he hoped the truth came out eventually.
