Many smokers are expected to ask for help over the festive season.
A charitable trust which runs Quitline says it always gets more calls during the holidays because people decide their New Year's resolution will be to stop smoking.
Quit Group executive director Helen Glasgow believes the increase is due to people having more time on their hands and up to 500 people a day could well call on the busier days, in the next fortnight.
She says smokers who seek help to quit, are twice as likely to give up for good than those who don't.
