Three swept out to sea

An Auckland man has died after getting into difficulty in the water at a Northland beach.

Police were called after three people were swept out to sea at Ruakaka beach shortly before 6pm.

Police said it was believed they were going out to check a crab pot.

All three were found and brought to shore and the man who died was given CPR at the scene.

They said the other two people are receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, a person was helicoptered to Auckland Hospital from a waterfall in west Auckland after they reportedly fell from a cliff.

A St John ambulance spokesperson said they were called to Kitekite falls near Piha at around 6.30pm.

She said the person was in a serious condition, suffering from cardiac arrest.
