Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash in Southland early this morning, in which a four-year-old boy died.
Sergeant Clint Wright said a truck carrying 30 bobby calves left State Highway 1 near Edendale and rolled into a paddock about 2.30am.
The four-year-old boy was killed and his two six-year-old siblings have minor injuries.
Mr Wright said the driver has moderate injuries.
Some of the bobby calves were euthanised due to their injuries, he said.
Police want to hear from anyone who was travelling to Gore at this time and might have seen a medium-sized high-sided truck.
