A kayaker found the 29-year-old Tama Hurinui Retimana's body near Ann Street at around 7pm on Tuesday.

He wore only boxer shorts and socks.

A post-mortem was carried out yesterday. Mr Retimana's family had been notified.

Detective Sergeant Terri Wilson said Mr Retimana was homeless, living along the banks of the river.

He appealed to the public for any information on Mr Retimana's whereabouts before he was found.
