A major commuter train service through the West Auckland suburb of New Lynn reopened on Tuesday after being halted because of a major gas leak.
A pipe was ruptured during construction work in Clark Street, New Lynn, stopping train services between Avondale and Henderson.
A number of homes, restaurants and local businesses were evacuated.
Replacement bus services were used on Monday until the line re-opened, just after midnight. Ontrack said a full passenger service was operating on Tuesday.
Police said some gas was still rising from under the road on Monday.
Crews worked through the night on Monday but Vector said the extent of the damage means repairs are not expected to be completed until the end of the week.
It said 32 customers in Hepburn Road had lost supply, but expected it to be restored by Tuesday evening.
