Name suppression for Gustav Otto Sanft, 26, lapsed this morning.

He has been charged with the manslaughter of Amokura Daniels-Sanft who died at the family home in Mangere in June after being shot in the head with a shotgun.

Mr Sanft is also accused of unlawfully possessing a pistol and supplying cannabis.

In the High Court in Auckland last week, his lawyer, Sam Fernando, argued his client's right to a fair trial would be affected if name suppression was lifted.

He said members of his partner's family feared being ridiculed and alienated if Mr Sanft was identified.

But Justice Lang said they were the victims in the case and everyone would know they had nothing to do with the death.

He allowed the order to continue for a week to let the family prepare.
