A man is recovering in Wellington Hospital after tumbling 10 metres down a steep hill and onto a road in Upper Hutt, suffering spinal injuries.
It is understood the 27-year-old was looking for a shortcut as he walked home early Monday morning, when he slipped down the bank and dropped the final two metres onto the road.
Emergency service staff who arrived at the scene shortly before 1.30am found the man had serious spinal injuries.
