Police in Rotorua have been interviewing witnesses to a road-rage attack that ended with one man shooting another in the face.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Loper says it appears the driver of a white station wagon believed the occupants of another car were following too closely in the central city on Thursday night.
Mr Loper says the man returned later to find the victim, near the Jade Factory in Eruera Street. He then assaulted and shot the man.
Mr Loper says there are questions about the offending driver's mental state. About half a dozen detectives are working to catch him, he says.
The victim avoided serious injury and has been discharged from hospital.
