Joshua Kite, 33, was accused of shooting at the officers last Friday morning, stealing a police car and abandoning a second stolen car in Maungaturoto.

Police said they arrested Mr Kite this afternoon after search warrants were carried out in Manurewa.

He was taken into custody without incident and was being held at the Manukau Police Station.

Police said a decision over what charges he would face would be made after he had been interviewed.

The 33-year-old had been last seen in Kaiwaka on Friday.

Before Mr Kite's arrest, Chey Tomassen - his former partner and the mother of his 14-year-old daughter - had pleaded for him to hand himself in.

"I just want him to come home for my daughter, for his son, for his mum, for his brothers," she told Checkpoint with John Campbell.

She said he needed to come home before anyone got hurt.
