A pilot has been flown to Palmerston North hospital in a serious condition, after his light aircraft crashed into farmland near Pahiatua.
It's understood the sole occupant of the four-seater plane clipped a tree before crashing into hills on a paddock in Mangamutu at about 5.10pm on Sunday.
Nine fire trucks were called to the scene and, although the wreckage was leaking gas, the plane didn't catch fire.
Another microlight crashed shortly before midday on Sunday, near Gisborne.
That pilot was in a stable condition in hospital on Sunday evening.
