About 50 Waikato firefighters were battling a blaze on steep terrain in Raglan on Friday night.
The fire was burning in toi toi and grass on an embankment above Ngarunui Beach.
Fire crews from Pirongia, Ngaruawahia and Hamilton city are at the blaze. A helicopter with a monsoon bucket has been called in from Thames.
No properties are in danger.
