Maurice Hemi Williams, 32, pleaded guilty to one charge of taking intimate recordings and one of breaching a protection order last month.

He spent a year in prison for similar offences in 2011.

Police said Williams put his phone in a shopping basket at a supermarket and swung it near women to get the photos.

In the Christchurch District Court today, Judge John Macdonald delayed Williams sentencing to allow his defence counsel to make submissions.

Judge Macdonald remanded Williams in custody until 10 October.
