A man has been taken into custody after a street in South Auckland was evacuated due to a possible bomb threat, police say.
A 200m cordon was put up around Henwood Road in Mangere this morning after police were told by mental health professionals about the possibility of home-made explosives at a property.
Residents and the nearby Kingsford Primary School were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The armed offenders and bomb squads were sent to the scene, and a robot was used to examine the property for any explosives.
Inspector Kerry Watson told reporters a 20-year-old man was arrested without incident at a business address in Papakura about 2pm.
The man was now being assessed by medical experts.
The police said later that no explosive devices were found during the search of the property.
The address had been cleared, and residents were free to return home.
