The commanding officer of New Zealand's latest deployment of troops to Afghanistan says the past six months have been an unqualified success.
The majority of the 15th rotation to serve in Bamyan province since New Zealand took over the role of provincial reconstruction in 2003 returned home over the weekend.
Colonel Martin Dransfield says the troops achieved far more than he'd expected.
He says there are still people who want to interfere with Afghanistan's progress, but locals have told him that the overwhelming view is that they want development to continue.
