A sports trust is hoping to get permission to use part of QEII Park in the east of the city for a mixed sport facility.

Two high schools and a council recreational facility and pool are planned for the park - formerly the site of a large swimming, recreation and athletics complex until it suffered earthquake damage.
Celebration Lions Sports Trust special projects manager Corey Watkinson said his organisation and the Parklands United Sports Club wanted to develop a facility on some of the land.
He said they were looking at an area of about two-and-a-half football fields, ideally developing two fields with artificial turfs and some seating or grandstand capabilities, club facilities and lighting.
Mr Watkinson said it was early days but they expected the project to cost about $4 million.
He said the two organisations covered seven or eight sporting codes and it would be a shared-use facility that could be used by the two schools and the public if there was the need.
The council said the request would be considered more fully after the October 2016 local body elections, when work on an master plan for the future use of QEII Park would get under way.
A council spokesperson said the community would be involved in the planning.
