Police in Rotorua have arrested a man in relation to the rape of an elderly woman on Wednesday.
The woman, in her 70s, woke to find a man breaking into her central city house about 3am before she was attacked and raped.
Police say they are relieved to have made an early arrest in the case.
A 34-year-old unemployed man will appear in Rotorua District Court on Friday charged with sexual violation by rape.
