Two Manawatu Prison inmates have escaped from a van while en route to the Levin District Court.
Jay Solomon, 18, and Debden Wamoana, 26, are inmates at Manawatu Prison. They broke out of the van in the township of Shannon at about 9am on Wednesday.
Police say they rolled onto the road, near the corner of Plimmer Terrace and Ballance Street.
Senior Sergeant Willie Roy says Wamoana is violent. He faces serious assault charges.
Solomon is charged with aggravated robbery and should be approached only with caution.
