A Gisborne principal says he wants a violent boy whose father is a Mongrel Mob gang leader to remain at Awapuni School so he can be selected to transfer to a specialist school in Auckland.
David Langford says the boy, aged 11, needs to be enrolled in a mainstream school in order to be selected to transfer to a specialist school in Auckland.
Mr Langford says the boy is violent, disruptive and intimidating to students and teachers.
He says the school enrolled the boy on the condition that he would be transferred to a residential school for students with behavioural problems. However, the assessment process is slow and only a limited number of students can be accepted.
