Pre-trial arguments have been heard at the High Court in Dunedin, in the case of a man charged with the murder of a university student.
Clayton Weatherson, 32, a former Otago University tutor, is accused of stabbing Sophie Elliott, 22, his ex-girlfriend and former student, to death at her home in January.
Miss Elliott received 216 stab wounds or cuts and seven blunt force injuries.
Defence counsel, Judith Ablett-Kerr QC, is arguing against the admissability of some of the Crown's evidence.
Justice Pankhurst closed the courtroom to the public for a time on Thursday morning, while some new evidence was contested.
The trial is scheduled to begin in late January in Dunedin.
