A man is to appear in the Gisborne District Court on three charges of criminal damage to police property.
Senior Sergeant Maui Aben says a man, 27, armed with an axe and a golf club attacked two police cars and the front door of the new police station at about 5.30am on Thursday.
Maui Aben says there is no indication that the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
