Serious Fraud Office to restructure

6:03 am on 10 April 2010

The Serious Fraud Office has announced that it is to restructure after a review of the organisation.

The SFO says the changes are aimed at improving fraud detection, with improved intelligence and more fraud inquiries initiated by the office.

Specialist investigation teams will examine corporate and markets fraud and cases of bribery and corruption.

SFO chief executive Adam Feeley told Checkpoint the new structure will enable better inter-agency collaboration and a faster, more responsive approach to investigations.

"Any initial inquiry will be carried out within 14 days to determine whether our statutory powers need to be exercised. But overall, there will be a decrease in the time taken to carry out the investigation."

There will be no reduction in staff numbers as a result of the restructuring, with three management positions being disestablished and five new ones created.
