Church hopes people will see funny side in latest billboard

A new billboard is being put up by the church that sparked a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority before Christmas.

St Matthew in the City Anglican Church in Auckland had a billboard showing Mary and Joseph in bed with the caption: "Poor Joseph, God is a hard act to follow".

The authority cleared the church this week, following complaints the billboard was offensive, insensitive and blasphemous.

The church says it is now trying to make people laugh with a new billboard showing Jesus on the cross with the caption: "Well this sucks. I wonder if they'll remember anything I said".

The church's vicar, Glynn Cardy, says he hopes people are not negative about the billboard.
