Aucklanders are being asked to give their views on how community laboratory services should work.
The future shape of the service has been unclear since the High Court overturned a $560 million contract over a conflict of interest and lack of consultation.
The key players in the row are awaiting the outcome of a Court of Appeal hearing in May.
In the meantime, the three Auckland District Health Boards want views on a wide range of aspects to do with the services, including the number and location of collection centres.
The two firms vying for the service - current provider, Diagnostic Medlab Limited and Labtests, now headed by Healthscope - say the consultation will be useful.
