Auckland police have captured a man they describe as a high risk repeat sex offender.
The public was on Friday urged to call police if they saw Richard Popata, 35, who had breached his prison release conditions by leaving the address where he was required to live.
Popata was released from jail at the end of August, a few days short of serving his full sentence.
In 2003, he was convicted of a range of offences including assaulting a child, injuring with intent, and possession of an offensive weapon.
Police in the Auckland suburb of Balmoral say Popata was arrested without incident on Dominion Road.
