A proposed children's hospital in Canterbury appears to be a step closer.
The Canterbury District Health Board is supporting further investigation into such a facility, as suggested by the board's Child Health Service.
The Chief of Child Health, Nicola Austin, says child facilities at Christchurch Hospital need to be replaced within the next ten years.
Dr Austin says the plan is an ideal opportunity to think about where the future facilities should be located and how they should be configured.
The proposed hospital would meet the needs of all acute and elective services for children for the next 25 years.
