Work starts on slip blocking Kawakawa road

Preparations have begun to remove 2000 cubic metres of earth from the Kawakawa Bay landslip site so the main road into the Auckland township can be re-opened.

The slip is threatening five properties and last month closed its main route of access.

This week a 1,300-litre monsoon bucket will begin dropping water on top of the hill to bring down unstable earth.

Manukau City Council says barriers are being put in place this weekend to help contain the material brought down from the landslip.
