Tramper found as dangers highlighted

Trampers and climbers are being warned to be prepared for all conditions following a recent spate of deaths on tracks and mountains.

A Melbourne couple died after falling at Mt Silberhorn in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, while another tramper died at the Mawson Glacier and a woman died when she was swept downstream while crossing the Deception River near Otira, on the West Coast. All deaths occurred in the last few days.

The Mountain Safety Council said people needed to know their limits and ensure they were ready for changing weather conditions.

Chief executive Mike Daisley said groups needed to stay together at all times.

"If you've gone out as a group, just stay together as a group.

"The last couple of incidents look like people have separated from their main walking group.

"People make decisions around being as a group and if you become separated, people make some different decisions that they may not be well prepared for."

Meanwhile, a tramper who went missing on a track in the Coromandel's Kennedy Bay has been found safe and well.

The woman, in her late 20s, was reported missing about 8:30pm last night.

The police said search and rescue teams located her about 4am.
