Shrinking accident compensation coverage may lead to a growth in demands for a return to the ability to sue, a conference in Wellington heard on Wednesday.
The comment came from Auckland University associate professor of law, Jo Manning, at a medical-legal conference hosted by outgoing Health and Disability Commissioner Ron Paterson.
Professor Manning says New Zealand has a low blame system governing patient safety and medical error that's the envy of the world.
But she says cost cutting and a leaner and meaner ACC scheme may spill over into more angry and upset patients.
