A convicted murderer has signalled he wants to meet with a woman he attempted to kill in 1995.
Mark Goodwin, 41, is serving a life sentence for the murder of his estranged wife Nicola Goodwin and for the attempted murder of Barbara Bishop in Taranaki.
In declining his latest bid for early release, the Parole Board says Goodwin is regarded as a model prisoner with a good record.
The board says though Goodwin is beginning to understand the causes of his offending through a violence prevention programme, he still has significant matters to address.
As part of this, the board asks that priority be given to his application to attend restorative justice with his surviving victim.
Ms Bishop on Wednesday refused to comment on whether she would participate in such a meeting.
