Police investigate injury to ambulance officer

A St John ambulance officer in Christchurch will be off work for at least six weeks after being injured while tending to a patient.

He has a broken arm as a result of being assaulted, reportedly by the patient's family.

Police are investigating the incident.

St John regional operations manager Chris Haines says seven ambulance officers have been seriously assaulted in the upper South Island In the past three years.
