New Navy ship develops engine faults

8:59 pm on 22 March 2010

One of the Royal New Zealand Navy's new ships has developed engine faults during sea trials off Australia.

The offshore patrol vessel Otago had been due to arrive in Auckland last Friday but has been delayed by about a week.

The ship didn't break down, and sailed back to port in Williamstown.

New parts are being sought from Australia and Europe. The repairs will be carried out under warranty by the manufacturer, BAE.
