Several landslips in the Capital

5:38 pm on 6 September 2008

Wellington City Council is warning people to take care on the roads following several landslips, including one that partially buried a car.

It says there have been large slips in areas including Kelburn, Johnsonville, Northland, and Karori after heavy rain.

One partly covered a car parked in Aro Valley.

Contractors have been working to clear streets blocked by mud, rubble and vegetation.

The council says motorists and cyclists should be alert for numerous small rock slides on roads.

Meanwhile, an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale has been felt in the Wellington region.

The quake struck at about 3pm on Saturday,10km north of Upper Hutt, at a depth of 30km.
