A Cambridge man has been arrested following a hit-and-run crash in Hamilton on Sunday that left a woman seriously injured.
The 25-year-old woman had to be cut out of her car and is in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital.
Her four-year-old daughter, who was riding in a car seat, escaped with scratches and bruising following the collision with a four-wheel drive vehicle.
A 33-year-old self employed man came forward to police on Tuesday night and has been charged with failing to ascertain injury at a crash.
He is also charged with making a false complaint after originally telling police the vehicle had been stolen.
Police say further charges are likely.
