A woman has been arrested following an investigation into movie piracy in Auckland.

She was taken into custody on Friday at a New Lynn address and charged with a copyright offence.

Police say computer equipment and copies of 4000 movies were seized.

The raid followed a joint investigation by police and the Federation Against Copyright Theft, which lasted three months.

The raid follows a joint investigation of the arrested woman's activities by police and the federation over the past three months.

Federation's director Tony Eaton says more charges are likely to be laid once the computer's hard drives are examined, but that could take a while.

In 2005, a survey showed movie piracy cost the film industry in New Zealand $70 million.
