$55m hotel bookings for Rugby World Cup

Rugby World Cup organisers say $55 million worth of hotel bookings have so far been taken for next year's tournament.

Rugby New Zealand 2011 says 109,000 room nights have been booked at 230 hotels.

Its chief executive, Martin Snedden, says that, in general, most prices being charged by hotels are reasonable.

He says the free market will ensure that overcharging hotels will have to reduce their prices or face the prospect of empty beds during the tournament.
