Supermarket advertising complaint upheld

The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint from one of New Zealand's supermarket chains about its rival.

Progressive Enterprises, which owns the Foodtown, Countdown and Woolworths supermarket brands, complained about a newspaper advertisement Pak'n Save ran in an Auckland newspaper.

The authority says Pak'n Save used a statistic to imply all its supermarkets offered the cheapest groceries, when the ad should have specifically noted the sole supermarket that figure referred to.

Fonterra

The authority also upheld a complaint against Fonterra's advertising of Tip-Top yoghurt ice cream.

It says Fonterra breached the Code of Advertising to Children by implying that asparagus, broccoli and whole grain toast were not as tasty as its product.
