What's the deal with the TPP?

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is now a real deal, but its details were kept controversially quiet. We took to the streets to see if people know just what it's all about.

After five years of negotiations and a marathon final session of talks, an agreement has been reached on the 12-nation TPP deal.

The government says, although not perfect, the economic benefits of the deal far outweigh any losses.

It points to a market of 800 million people and 40 percent of world trade and says New Zealand can not afford not to be part of this bloc.

The dairy industry had hoped for more market access from the deal - but did acknowledge positives for the industry and the country.

Opponents say the deal was negotiated in private, it will serve corporate interests and undermine sovereignty in matters of medicine, foreign land ownership, and environmental protection.
