Seventeen people are at large after tampering with their electronic monitoring bracelets.
The Department of Corrections said six were being managed on community sentences and orders, and 11 others were on bail.
It released the data in response to a query from Radio New Zealand.
It said the number of people at large did not represent a spike in the number of offenders tampering with their ankle bracelets; the number who had absconded at any one time had been stable, at about the 18 mark.
It said there were 3813 people being managed by electronic monitoring, and that the absconding rate is less than 0.5 percent.
