Police are scaling down their domestic investigation into the murder of Auckland taxi driver Hiren Mohini as they focus their attention overseas.
Mr Mohini was killed what police describe as a frenzied knife attack after picking up a passenger from the central city. He was stabbed in the suburb of Mt Eden on 31 January.
Detective Senior Sergeant Hywell Jones says police are working with several overseas agencies as they try to track down the suspect, whom they believe has left New Zealand.
Mr Jones says over the past few weeks the investigation has processed a lot of information. The team will be reduced to about 12 officers by next week.
