Funding stops Pasifika anti-violence project

A Pasifika organisation that offers stopping domestic violence services says it will have to close, because its government funding has not been renewed.

The Pacific Islands Safety and Prevention Project's board yesterday announced it would stop after 30 years of operation.

Board member Phil Meleisea said the project's government contracts had either ended or not been renewed.

He said without alternative funding it could not afford to continue.

The project was considering its options, and talking to other agencies about how its clients could get the services they need.

A date for the closure has not yet been determined.
