Chinese heritage trail proposed for Otago

A heritage trail is being considered for Otago that would link Chinese gold mining and other heritage sites across the region.

The region's economic development agency, Otago Forward, is expected to commission a feasibility study on the proposal in the next few months.

Central Otago Mayor and agency member Malcolm Macpherson says Dunedin's new $7 million Chinese Garden would be the perfect anchor for the idea.

Dr Macpherson says a Chinese heritage trail would be unique to Otago and a drawcard for the burgeoning Chinese tourist market.
