Top Auckland police appointments announced

4:03 pm on 5 August 2008

A new senior police officer for Auckland city has been appointed. The new District Commander for Auckland City is Superintendent George Fraser.

He is the first to fill the role full-time since Clint Rickards. Mr Rickards, who was twice cleared of sex charges, resigned from the police last year, before facing internal disciplinary action.

Police Commissioner Howard Broad has also announced three new Assistant Commissioners. One of them, Steve Shortland, is assigned to Auckland.

Mr Broad says, in the past, one of the three Auckland District Commanders has also been an Assistant Commissioner, but the new appointment is specifically dedicated to the strategic needs of greater metropolitan Auckland.
