New Zealand On Air (NZOA) has allocated $7.6m to the production of a second season of the programme next year.

Created by Rachel Lang and James Griffin, Westside told the story of Ted and Rita West in 1970s Auckland, with the first season wrapping up on TV3 earlier this month. The second season will be 10 episodes long.

NZOA has revealed it is also putting money into two-hour dramas about the aviation pioneer Jean Batten and the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior, which get $3.1m and $2.9m respectively. Both dramas will screen on TV One.

Dirty Laundry - a new series about a middle-class family whose mother is jailed for money laundering - also received $6.7m. It will be written and produced by Rachel Lang, Gavin Strawhan and Steven Zanoski for screening on TV One.

NZOA'S FIRST ROUND OF FUNDING:

  • Westside $7.6 million
  • Dirty Laundry $6.7 million
  • Jean $3.1 million
