Ministry's hair straightener gets the chop

8:20 am on 27 June 2015

A controversial hair straightener provided for staff at the new Wellington office of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has already been ditched.

The ministry says it was damaged when someone left it on, and it will not be replaced.

The purchase of the $400 straightener made headlines at a time when the ministry was already under fire for excessive spending.

Other items purchased as part of the office move were a $140,000 display screen in the building's foyer, and a $70,000 stone sign outside.
