Bowler Gary Lawson says he has been harshly dealt with by Bowls New Zealand.
Lawson has been fined $5000 and suspended from international competition for six months for throwing an end during a fours match at the Asia Pacific championships in Kuala Lumpur last year.
Jamie Hill, Shane Sincock and Shanon McIlroy have all been fined $1000.
But Lawson says the punishment is too much and Bowls New Zealand did not have the jurisdiction to charge them.
An appeal has been lodged over the initial decision.
Bowls NZ chair John Carter says the penalty imposed is a fair one and a clear message had to be sent to all bowlers.
Lawson also says his suspension from international play is more to do with a personal vendetta than the game itself.
He told Morning Report this situation has never been about the sport, but about the relationship between Bowls NZ chief executive Kerry Clark and himself.
