Rahul Gandhi, the great grandson of India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, has arrived in New Zealand as the inaugural Sir Edmund Hillary fellow.
The fellowship was set up in 2008 to bring emerging leaders from India and Nepal to this country.
The government says Prime Minister John Key and Mr Gandhi, who is a member of parliament in India, will discuss aspects of the relationship between two countries, including the prospects of a free trade agreement.
India is one of New Zealand's fastest growing markets.
